At Ubad Publishing, we believe that every child deserves access to stories that inspire, educate, and empower. Based in the heart of Hargeisa, Somaliland, we are proud to be one of East Africa’s leading publishers of children’s literature, dedicated to nurturing a strong reading culture across the region.
Our vibrant collection of books spans a wide range of genres, from educational resources and cultural folktales to imaginative fiction that sparks curiosity and creativity. Each book is designed not only to entertain but also to deepen children’s connection to their language, culture, faith, and the wider world.
Why Our Work Matters
A child’s journey to knowledge doesn’t begin and end in the classroom. Research shows that classroom learning alone is not enough. Children need access to books both at school and at home to thrive.
Up to 80% of a child’s vocabulary is developed through reading. By age 7, a child should ideally know 7,000 words. With strong reading habits, children can acquire up to 70,000 words by age 17. Without books, that number may drop to just 15,000 to 17,000, a gap that limits opportunity and lifelong success. Reading builds more than vocabulary. It builds minds, confidence, imagination, and futures.
